What if Jonas Salk had not tested the polio vaccine? Or, what if Einstein never tested his theory of relativity? Do you think they would have been successful? In the science world, definitely NOT, and in the marketing world, testing is every bit as important if you want to achieve success.

Any number of tracking programs are out there from Hits Connect to Track That Ad to the new Link Brander. Even server-side tracking scripts are available for purchase. Regardless of what you use, tracking every ad that you post, whether it be to a traffic exchange or to a safelist, you need to know how successful your marketing is.

Why? Because if you do not track your ads, you may spend tons of time and money chasing a dog that you will never catch.

This is how tracking works. You place the ad URL into the tracker, which creates a new URL for you to use in its place.

Every time you employ the tracker URL, that “hit” is recorded by the tracking system.

Let’s say you buy 2,000 hits at ABC traffic exchange. How will you know if they have been delivered, unless you are using a tracking system?

You won’t, and though it is the exception rather than the norm, you may not get the hits you paid for.

What should really interest you are the actual click-throughs. That tells you how many
times someone has actually seen your page and clicked on the link to take them to the site you are promoting. In this case, you will use the tracker link as the URL in your Call To Action (the click here, join now, etc.) button on your splash page. Or, use it as the link in your safelist mailing, as an FFA link, or in any other form of traffic generation system.

By using the tracking link, you will know every time someone clicks because the tracking
system will tell you.

Here is another example, let’s say we advertised site ABC on traffic exchange XYZ and  used a tracking link for our call to action.

We did the same thing at traffic exchange 123. At XYZ, we got our 1,000 hits and only 15 people clicked through to our page. At 123, we got 1,000 hits, but 100 people clicked
through to our page. In which traffic exchange do you want to promote that particular page more heavily? This is a no brainer, right? At 123, of course.

The only way that you can possibly know whether your advertising is working is by tracking the results.

Check out several tracking services to see which fits your budget and has the features you like. Then, either buy the script or sign up for a subscription. A tracking system is one tool in your marketing toolbox that you cannot afford to be without.

Having a way to consistently contact your customers is a big part of running a successful business online. The way this is usually done is through what is known as a follow up email autoresponder.

This is simply a tool that allows you to follow up with people who have shared their e-mail address with you. While there are many different autoresponder services available, they all have a few things in common.

1. A way to store contact information. This feature lies at the heart of any autoresponder. It is the database of all of the information you gather on your site for the purpose of sending out e-mail messages to people. A lot of businesses choose to only collect the person’s name and e-mail address, but there is nothing stopping you from collecting their address, phone number and other information that is important to you. The follow up email autoresponder will then store all of this information for you so you can access it at any time. This is a necessary feature because it allows for the automation of sending messages by the autoresponder service.

2. Sending a series of preprogrammed messages. One of the greatest things about an autoresponder is that you only have to set up the messages once, if that is what you want to do. You compose the message, and then you tell the autoresponder at what intervals you want each message sent out. For example, your first message (Thank You! or Welcome message) would be sent out right away, your second and third message could be sent out the next day, your fourth through eighth messages can be sent out every three days, and so on. It doesn’t matter when somebody subscribes to your e-mail lists, they will receive the first message based on when they sign up, and each additional message will arrive in their inbox at the interval you have chosen. It may sound a bit complicated but it really simplifies things once you get the hang of it.

3. Providing a web form. When auto responders were first released as a method of gathering information from your visitors, it was fairly common for the website owner to have to create the sign up form completely from scratch; this has changed. The follow up email autoresponder will give you a way to create a form to place on your website to capture the information you want to get from your site’s visitors. You create the form on the autoresponder site, and then copy and paste the code and place it onto your website wherever you want it to be seen.

The follow up email autoresponder is an essential tool for running a profitable business online. Without it, you will have to rely on people to keep coming back to your website to see whatever updates, or new offers you have available. But within autoresponder you are, in effect, visiting them as often as you like. This is a much smarter way of doing things; it will save you both time and money, and help you to run more of your business on autopilot.

As you know the Internet is huge, nobody out there knows you. Right?
What I mean by that is to brand yourself so people will know who you are.

Would you buy from someone you do not know? Of course you would not. Right?

Your next question would be how to I do that Ida? Well, I am going to tell you.

Get a piece of paper and write down everything about yourself:

  • Introduce yourself
  • What are you good at?
  • What can you teach other people to do?
  • Do you know about search engine optimization?
  • Do you know how to write well?
  • Do you know how to get leads?
  • Do you know what traffic exchanges get good results
  • Do you know where to advertise at, etc?

Think about what you can offer someone.

For example:

I am very knowledgeable about marketing on the Internet so I can teach you how to market on the Internet.

It can be anything. The goal here is to get your name out there (Branding) and to build a business relationship with your reader. Of course the subject matter has to be something that the reader is interested in.

You want to attract people who are interest in things that they are interested in.

Start a newsletter or a blog. And post your writing to it regularly.

Remember to post:

  • Your Name
  • Telephone Number
  • E-Mail Address
  • Skype Id

You want people to contact you. Do not worry too much about people calling you; I have been posting my telephone number on the Web for many years.

I may have received one or two calls. But I do get a lot of E-Mail messages.

How I Became An Internet Marketer

As I stated on the Home Page of this blog, after I retired I needed something to do. I heard so much about how easy it would be to make money on the Internet.

I say to myself, I am pretty good with the computer and I knew how to search the Internet, etc. But I did not know anything about Internet Marketing. So I jumped right into signing up for all kind of business opportunities. You know the ones that tell you that you can “MAKE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN 30 days”.

I know one thing for sure; I didn’t make hundreds of dollars in 30 days if anything I spent hundreds of dollars in 30 days.
I was such a fool. All right enough of that.

Well! I did not give up. I really got busy learning about what is an Internet Marketer and what must I do to become one.
